About Sakhi
Sakhi is an MIT-incubated digital health literacy intervention addressing preventable maternal mortality in India (MMR: 97 per 100,000 live births, 2018-2020) by targeting health literacy as a systemic driver of maternal health outcomes. Our WhatsApp-based intervention delivers multilingual, expert-verified health information to expectant mothers while providing frontline health workers and NGO partners with real-time analytics to identify and respond to emerging community health needs.
The platform was co-developed through 60+ user interviews with expectant mothers and frontline health workers in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, with a 25-year-old local NGO partner. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) with 100 participants (38 treatment, 62 control) demonstrated statistically significant improvements in maternal health knowledge.
